Driving in Azerbaijan isn’t for the faint of heart, however it’s certainly nothing to be afraid of and armed with the right knowledge before you hit the roads (in your own car, an Azerbaijan rental car or indeed a rental car from a neighbouring country), there are miles of highway to explore from the freedom of your own transport. Azerbaijan has hosted some high profile events of late including the Eurovision Song Contest and is also on the Formula 1 calendar.

The authorities are clearly keen to attract visitors and have invested heavily in the country’s infrastructure meaning driving in Baku in particular is much like any cosmopolitan city in Europe, venture beyond however and you’ll find some beautiful spots only accessible in your own car. The 58,000 km road network is of variable condition, roads in and around Baku are generally of a high standard, however roads outside of Baku can be of very poor condition so caution is advised.

Car parks are signed on a blue background with a white P, parking charges are displayed locally. Parking on the side of the road is generally acceptable outside of Baku, however in the capital you cannot park on major roads and we recommend you park only in designated car parks.
