Are there any special requirements for driving or hiring a car in Nigeria?

You drive on the right in Nigeria and most highways and roads in urban areas are in good condition. Poorly maintained roads are most common in small towns and rural areas, you should also look out for stray animals roaming the streets. There can be severe traffic jams in major cities such as Lagos which can last for hours so it is best not to drive during rush hours. The country imposes a 0.05% blood alcohol limit ( BAC) and it is forbidden to use your mobile phone (hands free only) and to eat or smoke while driving in Nigeria.
