Are there any special requirements for driving or hiring a car in Estonia?
One of mainland Europe's most northerly countries, if you're planning on driving in Estonia it would be wise to brush up on your
winter driving techniques and preparations. Bordering Russia and separated from
Helsinki in Finland by less than 100km of Baltic Sea, if you're visiting Estonia, be prepared for bitterly cold temperatures and the challenges that brings to driving and renting a car in Estonia. Famous of many of its 'ice roads' the normal driving rule book goes out of the window and if you're inexperienced or not confident to drive in the icy conditions it might be best not to take on the journey.
