Most people in Vietnam drive motorcycles so there is often a lack of parking for larger vehicles. Parking is prohibited where no-parking signs are posted, on bridges, at bus stops, within five metres of crossroads, on curves, on pedestrian crossings and over manholes or sewers.
Most shopping centres having parking garages and generally charge a daily rate of a few thousand Vietnamese dog.
Fines for parking violations usually cost VND 100,000 which will need to be paid at the local police station. Police may impound illegally parked vehicles and the fine will be higher due to impound and administrative costs.
