Are there any special requirements for driving or hiring a car in Serbia ?

Regardless of a trouble past, Serbia is popular with travelers with its beautiful countryside and the lively capital Belgrade. In Serbia you drive on the right and at intersections drivers must give way to traffic from the right. Trams have priority over all other vehicles. It is advised not to go off-road in rural areas without an experience guide due to the risk of coming across landmines and unexploded devices. A warning triangle is mandatory to carry in vehicles in Serbia. You will need winter tyres and snow chains when travelling in Serbia between 1st November to 1st April. Snow chains must be kept in your boot at all times and used when indicted by road signs. If you’re thinking of taking your hire vehicle into Kosovo, Albania or Bulgaria you will need to check this with the local car rental agents as some car rental companies do not allow this.

Parking Information

Parking regulations

Parking Information
Parking can vary differently from town to town in Serbia. In Belgrade finding a parking space during working hours can be very tricky and we always recommend parking in a public car park. Parking on pavements in Serbia is forbidden unless permitted by traffic signs.

Paid Parking
Parking zones are available in Belgrade and other large towns. They are categorised into different parking zones where parking time can be limited and payment is made for each full hour.

Parking Enforcement
Parking areas are indicated by parking traffic signs advising the colour of the zone and how long you are able to park there. Parking may be free outside specific hours. A parking warden will leave a fine payment under the windscreen wiper if you have failed to pay or displayed your parking time.

Disabled Parking
Parking which is reserved for disabled parking only will be marked with a wheelchair symbol. Do not park in the space if it is marked with a name or a license plate number.
