Wizz Air Baggage Allowance
Whilst a popular Irish carrier made the headlines in January for changing its baggage policy, many customers complaining the free allowance was reduced to only the smallest bags, Wizz Air have managed to go largely under the radar and in fact it was Wizz Air that arguably set this trend in motion. Back in November 2018, Wizz Air changed its luggage policy allowing basic ticket holders only the smallest carry-on bag. Only priority passengers could take what anyone would consider a reasonable amount of hand-luggage in the cabin. As with all other budget carriers, if you want to check-in luggage that’ll come at a cost too.
Wizz Air Excess Baggage Charges
Whilst you can check-in up to 6 x 20kg bags per person in accordance with Wizz Air baggage policy, making it one of the most generous airlines in terms of total baggage allowance (that’s a whopping 120kg!), should you exceed the 20kg limit per any individual bag you’ll be charge 10 EUR per kg over. Whilst any individual bag can weigh up to 32kg, those 12kg over the 20kg limit will cost you 120 EUR! It’s far cheaper the book an additional case than to exceed the baggage weight limit on Wizz Air flights.

Wizz Air Hand Luggage Allowance
Whilst Ryanair took the headlines for its meagre free hand luggage allowance, Wizz Air set the tone when it restricted its passengers to just a single carry on bag limited in size to a small backpack / handbag / laptop bag. No longer can a standard ticket holder take a trolley size / style carry-on bag on board. Much like Ryanair, this is restricted to Wizz Priority tickets holders only.
Wizz Air Check-in Baggage Allowance
Wizz Air allows each passenger to carry up to 6 pieces of luggage in the hold. However, you can only book 3 cases online at time of booking but can add a further 3 at bag drop at the airport. You’ll pay more for adding luggage at the airport and Wizz Air don’t state how much more but expect to pay at least a 50% premium over online prices. At time of booking you can choose between a 10kg, 20kg or 32kg case, each priced* at £17.50, £26.50 and £37 respectively. Exceeding your pre-booked baggage weight limit will result in a 10 EUR per kg excess baggage fee at the airport.

Wizz Air Special Baggage
Wizz Air welcome passengers to carry sports equipment and other items of special baggage and sets its fees according to date of travel (seasonality) and the weight of the item. Much like other excess baggage, it’s cheaper to book special baggage online at time of booking. If you arrive at the airport and have not pre-booked your special baggage you can expect to pay a lot more.
- Wizz Air Sports Equipment at time of booking / online - £26.50 / 30 EUR
- Wizz Air Sports Equipment at Airport - £53 / 60 EUR

Wizz Air Infant Baggage Allowance
If you are travelling with an infant under 2 years old you are entitled to carry an additional carry-on bag up to 40 x 30 x 20cm. You are also entitled to carry the following items in the hold for no charge;
- Pushchair / Buggy

Trunki on Wizz Air Flights
You can take it on yes, but it’s not free. Whilst you might get away with its height and width as the Trunki is just 1cm over size in these dimensions, it’s 6cm too long and simply won’t fit in the bag sizer at the gate. If you (more likely your child) bring a Trunki to the gate on a Wizz Air flight and are not a priority ticket holder you’ll be charged 25 EUR at the gate.
