Fly Smart Jet2

Jet2 Baggage Allowance

If you’re flying with Jet2 the good news is that you will benefit from one of the simplest and generous luggage allowances of any airline, particularly among the budget airlines. Popular routes from Manchester, Edinburgh and London Stansted are among the airlines most booked flights all of which benefit from a free 10kg hand luggage allowance and as Jet2 are keen to boast, a class leading 22kg per item of hold luggage, trumping easJet’s 15kg and Ryanair’s 20kg. The battle of the UK’s budget airline baggage allowance seems to have been won by Jet2.

Jet2 Excess Baggage Charges

Whilst one of the most generous standard allowances, certainly amongst the budget airlines if you do exceed your 10kg limit for hand-luggage or 22kg for checked-in luggage you’ll be charged an additional £12 per kg in addition to an administration fee of £45 making Jet2 one of meanest when it comes to excess baggage charges. With this in mind, you really should check your luggage weight before arriving at the airport as just 1kg over could land you a £57 excess baggage charge. As with all baggage policies and charges, it’s always cheapest to pre-book your luggage online, at Jet2 that is especially true as you’ll pay double if you check it in on the day at bag drop, it’s 50% cheaper to pre-book your luggage online than on at the airport!

Jet2 Hand Luggage Allowance

All passengers with their own seat / ticket (excluding infants under 2) are entitled to a single carry-on case of up to 10kg and a generous 56cm x 45cm x 25cm. Large hand-luggage cases should be placed in the overhead lockers and smaller items placed under the seat in front of you. However due to limited space in the overhead lockers, cabin crew can request you place your hand luggage in the hold (free of charge) if there is not enough room in the cabin.

Jet2 Check-in Baggage Allowance

The most generous of all the budget airlines, pre-book a checked-in case on your Jet2 flight and you can carry up to 22kg of luggage in a single case. Better still, each passenger is entitled to book up to 3 cases each, meaning a total luggage capacity of 66kg per person in addition to the 10kg hand luggage allowance! The excess baggage charge is high however so make sure you stay within the generous weight allowances.

Jet2 Special Baggage

Sports equipment and musical instruments can usually be carried on Jet2 flights and are designated under special baggage. The table below outlines the fees / charges for carrying special baggage and weight restrictions. Much like any other item or baggage, exceeding the weight limit on any individual item will result in the standard £12 per kg excess baggage charge and no item over 32kg will be permitted. All special baggage must be pre-booked in advance, should your desired item not be listed, you should contact Jet2 before arriving at the airport.

Jet2 Infant Baggage Allowance

Infants under 2 do not receive a baggage allowance as are not allocated a seat on the flight. A £20 charge per flight is made for travelling with infants under 2, yet no extra luggage allowance is offered to the parent / adult with whom the infant is travelling. Most airlines allow a baby change bag in addition to any hand luggage allowance. Families travelling with children (under 16) are permitted to take 2 pieces of equipment per child into the hold for no fee.

  • Pushchair / Buggy
  • Travel cot
  • Car seat
Any individual item is limited to 10kg and any excess weight will be charged at the same £12 per kg excess baggage fee.

Trunki on Jet2 Flights

No problems here, the Trunki comes in at 46cm x 31cm x 21cm including all its wheels, handles and even horns on some models and comfortably fits within Jet2’s maximum size limits. Whilst unlikely that you could cram over 10kg worth of luggage in a Trunki, weight is your only concern, but so long as it’s under 10kg (excluding child!), Jet2 are a very Trunki friendly airline which is more than can be said for Ryanair!
