Can I hire an electric car?

Yes, whilst slow to the market, electric (or commonly referred to as EV) cars are gradually being introduced onto car hire fleets. A failed attempt to introduce EV hire cars into the US was pulled back in 2017 due to limited demand, however Sixt and other car hire companies are now offering electric car hire at major European car hire locations including;
 


We expect availability to increase quickly, so if you want to hire an electric car check in the search filter to see if any electric cars are available for you search criteria.

Generally speaking we adopt the car hire industry standard ‘or similar’ policy which means that we do not guarantee an exact make and model when hiring a car. All of our cars are grouped into categories and a representative make and model is shown when booking your hire car. This is usually the most popular make and model offered by that car hire company at that location in that vehicle class. You will always be offered a make and model in the same, or higher category of that booked.

At certain locations we can guarantee make and model, look out for special offers in our search results or filter by ‘Guaranteed Car Model’ in the search results.

Can I hire an automatic rental car?

Yes, we can arrange automatic car hire at virtually every destination we offer (over 50,000 worldwide). Simply enter your search details as usual and use the filter in the left-hand column (or filter button if searching on mobile) to return only results for automatic car hire.

Can you guarantee a 4x4 or 4WD hire car?

Strictly speaking we cannot 100% guarantee that if you book an SUV or 4x4 model that the vehicle received will be a 4x4.

However, in certain locations such as Oman and South Africa where 4x4 rentals are popular, most vehicles that fall into the SUV category are 4x4 (4WD) as standard.

If you specially require a 4x4 rental and are unsure as to whether your chosen rental will be a 4x4, please contact us for clarification so that we can check with the car hire company that a 4x4 vehicle will be guaranteed.

Can you guarantee a Ford Mustang?

As with our general terms and conditions, unless you see the ‘Guaranteed Make & Model’ special offer next to the Ford Mustang you are considering booking then we cannot guarantee that a Ford Mustang will be provided by our car hire partners.

We do however offer a ‘Money Back Guarantee’ if you are not supplied with a Ford Mustang.

If you are not provided with a Ford Mustang, the ‘or similar’ options include;
 

  • Chevrolet Camaro Convertible
  • BMW 4 Series Convertible

Can I upgrade my hire car?

Yes, you can amend your car any time up to 48 hours prior to pick-up with no fees. Simply log into my ‘My Booking’ and click ‘Amend / Cancel’ where you can choose to amend dates, times and car.

A new booking may be made (we will automatically cancel the old one) and the balance of the new old rental will be credited to the new booking leaving only the difference to pay.

You can also request an upgrade at the rental desk (you may be offered), the car hire company will advise the additional charge for the upgrade.

You can also ask for a free upgrade, the car hire company may have higher class vehicles available and be willing to offer you an upgrade free of charge. It never hurts to ask.

Generally speaking however, the majority of hire cars are new makes and models as most car hire companies turn over their fleet of hire cars in a very short period of time. Most hire cars are under 1 year old with low recorded mileage.

Yes, if you have booked a convertible hire car for your holiday we guarantee that you will receive a convertible hire car. However, unless specified as a ‘Guaranteed Make and Model’ special offer, the exact make and model provided may differ from that booked online.

You will however be guaranteed a car of equal or higher class / capacity to that booked. For example, If you book a Fiat 500 Convertible, you may receive a Mini Cooper Convertible as an alternative, but any alternative model is guaranteed to be a convertible.

To hire a convertible, simple run a search as normal and filter results by car type to display on convertible car hire options.

All of our bookings include free breakdown cover. When you collect the car, the car hire company will provide you with an information pack that details what you should do if you break down.

There will be an emergency breakdown telephone number that you can call. The breakdown service will attend and repair / replace the hire car.

It’s worth remembering that most hire cars are under 1 year old and so breakdowns are rare.
