FAQs trending today about Payments

Yes, you can book your hire car online using a debit card, however you need to check the terms and conditions for your chosen rental to ensure that a debit card is accepted on arrival.

Most car hire companies require a credit card to be produced on arrival for security purposes and to cover the car hire excess deposit. However, some car hire companies do permit a debit card, but usually require the customer to accept their full excess waiver insurance.

If you are unable to present a valid credit card on arrival, the car hire company may refuse to release the car and, in these cases, no refund can be offered. Please check the payment section of your terms and conditions before booking to ensure you can meet the requirements.

The prices displayed on our search results include all the mandatory charges applicable to your search criteria. It is very important to ensure your pick-up and drop-off location, dates and times and driver age are all correct as the search results returned.

Included in your car hire price;

  • Collision Damage Waiver
  • Theft Protection
  • Third Party Liability
  • Airport fee (where applicable is detailed at payment page)
Our search results will consider any of the following fees and display accordingly, including at what stage they are due to be paid (at booking / pick-up):
  • One-way car hire fees
  • Young driver surcharge
  • Out of hours fee
Do not forget that all rentals will have a car hire excess deposit required upon collection. This varies by car hire company / car type however can be found in the terms and conditions. This is a refundable deposit assuming the car is returned without damage / unduly dirty.

All optional extras are not included in the standard price unless explicitly identified as included in the rate.

It is also important to ensure you have the correct country of residence set in your quote. Our system detects your location from your IP address to determine your residency, however if you are conducting a quote / booking in a country different to your country of residence, our search results may not be applicable for you. For example, US customers have different car hire insurance terms to non-US residents and so it is important to set the correct country on your quote. You can edit this in the search results here;

All frequently asked questions about Payments

If you choose to pay a deposit only to secure your rental car (usually £20 / 25 EUR) the balance will be automatically collected from your payment card around 4 weeks prior to travel. The exact date will be displayed at time of booking.

You can log into your booking using the ‘Manage Booking’ facility at any time to pay the balance should you wish or change the payment card.

If we are unable to collect the balance on the scheduled date (card expiry / insufficient funds) we will be in touch to arrange an alternative method of payment asap. If we are unable to make alternative arrangements, you risk your booking being cancelled and forfeiting your deposit.

If you have booked a car with a pick-up full, return empty policy, the car hire company will charge for a full tank of fuel on arrival. This fuel policy is increasingly rare in car hire now however some rental agents still offer this option.

The fuel charge will likely be more than the local fuel station cost (expect approx. 20% premium).

A Full-to-Full fuel policy remains our recommended fuel policy and offers the best / fairest value for the majority of customers.

Depending on the fuel policy specified on your car hire booking will determine what you will pay for fuel when hiring a car.

Full to Full
As the name suggests, the car is full when you pick it up and so long as you return it that way there are no extra fuel charges.

Pick up Full, Return Empty
Again, pretty clear on the face of it, the car is collected with a full tank of fuel and you can return it as empty as you dare (just don’t run out of fuel on your way to the airport!). You pay upfront for the fuel, often at a premium to local rates. No refunds for unused fuel.

Pick up Full, Return Empty (Partial refund)
A pick up full, return empty policy that offers a partial refund on unused fuel. You will pay in advance for the full tank and the rental agent will reimburse you for unused fuel. This is usually applied in ¼ tank allowances at local pump rate, NOT the rate you paid for the full tank.

Free Tank of Fuel*
A rare fuel policy, in fact you will only really be offered this in the USA on special offers. It will be factored into the overall rental cost and usually provides good value overall.

Yes, the car hire company should provide you with a final invoice when you collect the car outlining all the associated costs. Should you incur any post rental fees / fines these will be issued to you directly after your rental.

If you did not receive a final invoice from the car hire company you should first request this directly. We do not hold a copy of the car hire company invoice, however if you are unable to obtain a copy directly, please do contact us and we will request on your behalf.

Most of our car hire bookings are pre-paid in full meaning you pay the full balance of the rental at time of booking.

We also offer a ‘deposit’ only option on some rentals (this will be offered at the payment page) where only a small deposit of often 20 / 25 EUR is due at time of booking. The balance will be automatically collected from your payment method around 4 weeks prior to travel (exact date will be confirmed at payment stage at time of booking).

You can log into your booking at any time using the ‘Manage Booking’ facility and pay the balance or change the payment card.

Some domestic US / Canada car rentals are ‘pay on arrival’.  We take no payment when reserving the car and the full balance is due on arrival directly to the car hire company. There are no cancellation / no-show fees in these cases.
