A recent survey on what stresses those about to embark on their holiday most showed that one of the main concerns was whether a passport was in date or not. Whilst the task of checking your passport’s expiry date is very quick and should be automatic, Heathrow Airport reports nearly a hundred cases a day where travellers in or out of the UK have not renewed their passports.

We’re almost at that time of year when schools break up for the summer and flights and holidays take a dramatic hike in price as travel companies and airlines take advantage of the increased demand. The price of package tours and flight prices is at least double and often up to quadruple that of dates in the school terms but there are signs that soon travel companies may not have it all their own way.

A combination of great weather and success in several sporting events recently has dramatically changed the mood of our country over the last week or so. Any Murray winning Wimbledon, England winning the first Ashes test match in cricket and temperatures touching 30C have all come as greater or lesser surprises and with the school summer holidays imminent, there’s plenty more to be happy about.

Yesterday’s air crash of an Asiana 777 as it approached the runway at San Francisco Airport has raised the discussion once more over the safety of aircraft and airports around the world. If you look at statistics, 80% of accidents occur at take-off or landing with accidents on landing slightly outnumbering those occurring on take-off.
