You probably know by now which side of the car your fuel filler cap is on. If you drive your own car and refill the fuel tank regularly it’s pretty unlikely that you’ll arrive at your
nearest petrol station unsure as to what side your fuel filler cap is on.
But what if you hire a car? There are so many important things on concentrate on when hiring a car, like
which side of the road to drive on to checking the
speed limits abroad that such a simple task as filling your rental car up with fuel can pose a problem. Whilst most pumps will reach both sides of most cars, if you park a little too far away or have rented a particularly big car you might have the embarrassing situation of having to move the car to the other side of the forecourt if you’ve parked at the pump and the fuel filler cap is on the wrong side.
The Fuel Filler Cap Tip
Not many people know this so it’s a handy little tip, if you look at the fuel gauge on the dash, there is a little arrow next to the fuel pump logo which quite simply indicates which side of the car the fuel filler cap is on. Simple. No more embarrassing forecourt moments, just pull up alongside the pumps which side the arrow points.
We’ve also gone to the effort of listing most major car manufacturers and picked our most common rental model to state which side the fuel filler cap is on. As a general rule of thumb, manufacturers use the same side for most models in their range, but now you’re in the know, you’ll never need to get out of the car to check again.
