Yes, Christmas is only just gone and wasn’t that a problem finding a gift for your loved one? Already though, the commercial world is prodding us towards what to do for Valentine’s Day. Probably more important for your relationship than Christmas or even a birthday, get it wrong and you won’t have to worry about next year!
The gift is usually easy as it has to be flowers, plus either jewellery or perfume or chocolates for women and probably chocolate and maybe a macho experience gift for the boys. It’s not a time for clothes or DIY gear so that cuts down the choices and the potential for error.
What works far better though is the surprise break away where it’s just the two of you but which are the winners in the romantic break market and how much is it going to cost this year?
This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Thursday so it’s perfect to present your partner with the tickets on the day then jet off the following evening.
Paris is still the romantic favourite even though it’s likely to be cold and wet – a great reason to stay snuggled up in your hotel room though with room service. easyJet or Air France will get you there for around £110 each and with car hire in Paris
for under £20 a day plus a decent hotel at £50 a night, it’s not going to break the bank.
Paris to some is a little clichéd so broaden your thinking a little and consider magical Vienna where the flights may cost you an extra £70 each but the hotel rooms are cheaper and with car hire in Vienna
, a fiver cheaper per day, it’s not too much more for a more original break.
New York is the ultimate for many for a romantic break away and there it’s often cheaper to go for a package with agents such as lastminute.com where a Valentine’s break will set you back £500 plus the cost of car hire in New York
at just over £35 a day. You could dispense with the hire car and use the metro but a hire car is far classier if you’re looking to impress.
If you’ve a bit more cash, Dubai will appeal to the shopper in your partner but flights alone from the UK over the Valentine weekend will set you back around £320 with AZAL followed by a reasonable hotel room at £50 for the night. Car hire in Dubai
is much cheaper at £20 a day.
Finally, if it has to be a less exotic location, then consider a cottage for the weekend in the Cotswolds, a trip to the theatre in London or the magic of Scotland, travel costs should be less also whether you take your own car, hop on a train or rent a car in the UK
from one of our many pick up locations.
One final piece of advice though – don’t leave it too late or it won’t just be your partner that’s disappointed come Valentine’s Day!
