Airport Multi-faith Prayer Rooms

Following our recent studies on airport drop off charges and airport Wi-Fi provisions, we’ve extended our review of the UK’s top 20 airports by passengers numbers to see which offer Multi-faith prayer rooms and where in the airport you can expect to find them. The good news is that most airports in the UK offer multi-faith prayer rooms in the main terminal and departures areas, after all that is where most passengers spend the majority of their time when at the airport and where a prayer room seems most appropriate, Belfast City Airport have located their prayer room in the arrivals hall however. Only 4 of the UK’s top 20 airport don’t have any dedicated prayer facilities*, those being Aberdeen, Bristol, London City and Southampton. As expected, the major airports of Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester have facilities at all terminals. You'll find 3 multi-faith prayer rooms at Heathrow Terminal 4 and 4 rooms at terminal 5, whilst you'll be pleased to know that you can access multi-faith prayer rooms at Gatwick North Terminal and also at its south terminal.

Multi-faith prayer room at the airport

Most of the UK’s airports have a multi-faith prayer room in the departures area of their terminals and the majority are signed as such, however other terminology is used such as Leeds Bradford which use the term ‘reflection room’. Many of airports have a chaplaincy facility in multi-faiths and offer dedicated faith specific sessions (check specific airport websites for schedules).

Can I use a multi-faith prayer room if of no faith?

It's important to stress, that whilst the airports make reasonable provision to cater for all faiths, they all strive to make the facilities as inclusive as possible and state that the rooms are also available for general reflection and quiet time. They are not assigned to a specific faith and welcome passengers of no faith who might benefit from the facility also.
