Eco Friendly Car Hire – Low Emission Car Rental

We’ve covered the safest rental cars before, however in the increasingly environmentally conscious world we live, more and more customers are seeking the most environmentally friendly rental car. It’s no secret that travel (and driving) leaves a carbon footprint and until EV car rental is a viable option for the many, we’ll continue to drive cars that emit CO2 into the atmosphere, however we can make informed decisions on what cars we rent to limit those emissions.

We’ve looked at all of the rental cars available from our fleet in the UK (shared makes and models from destinations all over the world) to reveal the lowest emission rental cars in the UK to help you rent the most eco friendly rental car.

Tips for reducing emissions from a rental car

There are number of ways you can reduce your carbon footprint when renting a car, we’ve outlined our handy hits and tips from your choice of rental car to driving techniques.

Rent the smallest car category to meet your needs

Not only will renting a smaller class car save you money, it’ll likely reduce your CO2 emissions also. Smaller cars are generally lighter and use smaller engines, both factors contributing to lower CO2 emissions. For example, a Volkswagen Polo emits just 105 g/km of CO2, whereas its bigger brother the Golf emits 110g/km.

Smooth driving reduces fuel consumption / CO2 emissions

It’s no secret that a smooth driving style will not only reduce CO2 emissions but also reduce fuel consumption, again saving you money. Accelerate slowly and avoid heavy braking (where safe to do so). Did you know that pulling away from a standstill uses more fuel that any other type of driving, try to avoiding stopping entirely when approaching traffic (of course, where safe to do so).
