Mexico Mini Guide

Mexico is a large Spanish speaking country which borders the United States to the north and Guatemala, Belize and the Caribbean Sea to the south east. It also has a coastline with the Pacific Ocean to the south and the west. More than 100 million people live in this ecologically diverse region which has mountain ranges, deserts and fantastic beaches making it a fascinating place to visit.

Mexico Cancun Beach

The peak tourist seasons in Mexico are during the months of December, July and August. It is also a popular destination during Easter as the country is mostly Catholic. Many American university students drive down to Mexico to celebrate Spring Break. Driving in Mexico is the best way to see the country. Always take a map with you as the quickest way to get to places is not necessarily in a straight line. Sticking to the toll roads is a safe bet if you want to avoid getting lost, and in Mexico it is advisable to drive a little under the speed limits rather than pushing them as is common in most other countries.

Mountains in Mexico

Driving at night in Mexico is generally discouraged for a number of reasons. There are often unseen obstacles in the road at night in the form of pedestrians or cyclists who do not make efforts to illuminate themselves, and there is also a risk of running into drunk drivers or being a victim of crime. Should you accidentally hit someone while driving, stay at the scene and call your insurance adjustor as well as the ambulance and the police.

Unusual Sights in Mexico;

A strange sight but one which could become familiar in years to come was seen off a Caribbean beach in Mexico on the 10th December 2010. Tourists could have been forgiven for wondering what the Statue of Liberty, the Pyramids, the Houses of Parliament and the Taj Mahal were doing in the sea but it was a protest by Greenpeace in their campaign for more effort to be put into combating the rise in sea levels globally.

The environmental organisation said that currently the developed world is ignoring the real and present danger to nations such as The Maldives and Tuvalu which face disappearing under the sea within 20 years. The campaign aims to show that the developed nations won’t be far behind with all of these landmarks and more likely to be underwater by the end of the century unless attitudes change.
