Cancun Mini Guide
About Cancun
A jewel in the crown of the Mexican shoreline,
Acapulco's younger and prettier sister, Cancun's star began to rise in the 1970's and hasn't stopped yet. It is home to the most pure ground coral sands, turquoise sea and it provides an unrivalled laid back party atmosphere. Originally a peaceful fishing island it has rapidly developed in the past three decades into a pulsing and vibrant holiday destination. The high season in Cancun runs from December to April but for family vacations March should be avoided as Cancun is heaving with young Americans on spring break during this time and the atmosphere can be quite wild.
What else is on offer?
Due mostly to the fact that it was handpicked as the perfect location for a tourist development and built accordingly; Cancun literally has something for everyone in terms of things to do and see. With over twelve miles of beautiful white beaches, ancient Mayan temples and all the modern amenities you may expect from a world class destination, you will not be disappointed whatever your tastes and using a Cancun rental car from Rhino, all are within easy reach.
If you don't want to stray far from your hotel but want to see something interesting head down to the Interactive Aquarium which is located right in the centre of the Hotel Zone. This Aquarium is home to sting rays, sharks and beautifully coloured tropical fish and offers you a chance to touch some star fish or swim with the dolphins.
A little further afield, approximately 46 miles south of Cancun lies the Xcaret, a beautiful Eco- archaeological park, easily accessible using Cancun car hire. It boasts of its own archaeological site and Mayan village, a butterfly pavilion and a spa offering a full range of services. Visitors can see the orchid green house, view the many species of rare tropical flora and fauna, snorkel in underground rivers and after dark take in the floorshow which features performances of traditional Mexican music and ancient Mayan rituals all reachable with car hire Cancun.
If you prefer a laid back relaxing evening, take one of the many cruises available, (it is advisable to book most cruises and trips with the agents that are recommended by your hotel to ensure their reliability). Start off with a jungle tour or a cruise through the lagoon to snorkel on the reef, and don't miss the highly recommended lobster dinner cruise. Steak and fresh lobster are cooked on board and in combination with the sea air the taste is unforgettable. Wherever you decide to explore, Cancun will always leave you wanting more and using the cheap car hire Cancun has to offer you are sure to see all you want to see.
