About the Airport
Edmonton International Airport is in the province of Alberta, Canada. It is a major hub for Alberta and Northern Canada. The airport is located 26 km away from downtown Edmonton.
How Can I get There?
There are flights from 50 communities in Canada and also from the
USA. There are also a few flights from Europe (
London Heathrow,
Amsterdam Schiphol and
Paris CDG) and
Brazil and
Peru in South America. Low cost airline WestJet operates the most flights from Edmonton Airport to 28 destinations, creating half the airport traffic. In total 18 airlines have flights from there.
Can I get to the City Easily?
You can use the Skyshuttle bus service that picks you up just outside of arrivals or many hotels have their own shuttle bus, so it’s worth checking. The new C-Line bus route or route 590, operates from the airport during peak commuter times to various districts in the city. If you have hired a car you will find the car rental offices at the Parkade on Level P1.
What’s at the Airport for me?
There are ICE currency exchange bureaus in arrivals and departures and ATMs are located there too. There is an indoor observation deck where you can watch all the activity at the airport or use the work stations. To browse the internet whilst you wait, you can use the free Wi-Fi service or if you are travelling business class with Air Canada, you are entitled to use their Maple Leaf Lounge. There you can also read up on the latest news and have some refreshments. Just got there and feeling lost? Head to the information desk in arrivals, they will help you with enquiries about the airport and the local area.
I’m Hungry…
Need a quick fix – have a fresh smoothie from Booster Juice in arrivals or if its coffee and cake time, head to Tim Hortons. For fast food, try burgers or breakfast at Chili’s or hot and cold sandwiches at Quizno’s. If you get really hungry have home-style cooking at Montana’s Front Porch or a juicy steak at Mountain Lodge Bar and Grill. For Asian Cuisine and quick – go to Wok Box where there will cook you a meal in 90 seconds flat.
Can I do Some Shopping?
Grab your newspaper at Hudson News and buy the forgotten travel adapter at the Travel and Leisure Store. Pick out the latest bestselling novel or some music at Indigo. Buy your duty free perfumes and alcohol at the Dufry Store or for a speciality wine or local produce, take a look in A Flight of Wines and Spirits.
Is There a Hotel at the Airport?
The Courtyard by Marriott is due to open in autumn 2012. It will have 210 rooms and a restaurant and lounge area. There will be a fitness centre and indoor pool for residents use. You will be able to walk straight into the airport terminal using the pedway from the hotel.
- A massive advertising campaign along with expansion works at the airport designed to encourage more routes to Edmonton has begun to push up traffic at the airport. Once complete, passenger capacity will expand to over ten million.
