Watford Mini Guide

North of Where?
Watford town is located in the Hertfordshire region of England just over thirty kilometres from the centre of London. Resting comfortably on a small hill by the river Colne, it was originally a common stop for travellers between London city and the Midlands. Its main high street traces the route followed by an ancient pre-Roman road and (on a completely random note) it is also the birthplace of Geri Halliwell the original ginger spice.

“Wat” to See
All visitors to Watford should at least visit the Cassiobury Park, which gets its name from the Celtic tribal name of Cassii. It has a huge green area with excellent facilities for children that include a mini train track for kiddie’s rides, a nice playground, a paddling pool and a great bouncy castle. Another sight worth a visit is the Watford Colosseum, an amazing venue with fantastic acoustics that has been used to record the music for such famous stories as the Lord of the Rings and the Star Wars movies. It also hosts regular concerts by the BBC Concert Orchestra. The venue reopened earlier this year after a multi-million pound renovation and now hosts a Modern Cafe Bar and a new restaurant called the Forum. Harry Potter fans can also take in the world famous Warner Bros Studios where the films were produced.

In Watford, the town centre is the place to go after dark and the Oceana club is probably the best in town. The club has hosted some of the most well known names in the business, with an excellent atmosphere and extensive drinks menu it is a popular haunt for the premiership guys and an assorted mix of soap stars. With ten differently themed rooms to choose from and a variety of pre-bookable VIP booths and suites you’ll be sure of a spot to rest your weary dancing feet.

Getting There
If driving, just follow the M25 or M1 motorways and take the exits for Watford. The town is well serviced by bus connections from London and the Midlands. Watford is also located on one of the Main National Rail routes and the London underground serves the Watford Metropolitan Line so travel by rail is also an option.
