St Pancras Mini Guide
Why Take the Train Instead of the Plane?
Despite the slightly longer rail journey; taking check in and baggage collection into account, journey times aren’t much greater by rail to much of Europe. The train gives you the benefit of more legroom, unlimited luggage and a better view (apart from its time in the tunnel!)
Where can I get to and From With St Pancras Station?
As with all Eurostar trains, the main European hubs are Paris
. If you want to travel further afield you can take the French high speed train from Paris. Brussels gives you more options with onward travel by HST to Amsterdam
. It’s hoped that the reduction of the Eurostar monopoly will encourage companies such as Deutsche Bahn to offer near straight through HST services, reducing travel times further.
What is the Station like?
It was nearly demolished in the 1960s but was saved for posterity. At the start of the 21st century £800m was devoted to remodelling, renovating and improving the station as an international rail terminus for London. The work, which included the construction of a beautiful five star hotel, has left the station as a beautiful piece of modern architecture whilst still retaining much of its tradition. The station has many facilities including a full complement of shopping facilities and many places to eat including fast food as well as high class eateries. Banks, a police station, first aid facilities and a post office as well as other services including hairdressers, massage and more complete the picture.
