Columbus Airport Mini Guide
There are no international flights to or from Port Columbus outside the North American continent so travellers arriving from Asia, Africa or Europe have to make a connecting flight. From Europe this is done most cheaply to Toronto Pearson or to Chicago, Washington or New York. Once in Columbus, transport options from the airport include a local bus service into Columbus as well as a half hourly shuttle bus to the city and other destinations within the airport catchment area. Taxis are available too but the easiest means of transport is by hire car with the airport being off junction 9 of Interstate 670. The cities of Cincinnati and Cleveland are one and two hours distant, respectively.
Despite being only a category C airport, Port Columbus Airport handled over six million passengers last year. The airport underwent a major expansion and upgrade thirty years ago upon its fiftieth anniversary adding air bridges for every gate making it much easier for passengers to get access to the terminal. A decade later it was expanded by the addition of another concourse and a third added fifteen years ago. Since then minor upgrades and improvements have made it a clean, bright and efficient airport with plenty of facilities. There are a number of shops and restaurants including men’s outfitters, chocolate shops and gift shops. The gift shops sell lots of memorabilia from the state including a gift shop dedicated to the Ohio Buckeyes NFL team. As you’d expect, car hire is readily available at the airport but as it is a popular transport method in the state, you are advised to book your car in advance to avoid inconvenience on the day of arrival.
Columbus is central to lots of attractions in Ohio and if you’ve hired a rental car at Columbus Airport, it’s also easy to reach many other exciting destinations such as Detroit and Pittsburgh. Whether you’re intending to stay in Columbus for a few days or venture out into Ohio, our recommendation is to arrange a hire car to be ready for you at Columbus when you arrive then the open road is yours to explore.
Columbus is a popular destination and to avoid disappointment or inconvenience it’s always preferable to pre-book your Columbus Airport hire car in plenty of time. Doing so is made simple by visiting Columbus Airport car hire at rhinocarhire.com.
