Orlando - Lake Buena Vista Mini Guide
Is Lake Buena Vista as Idyllic as it Sounds?
If you’re under thirteen years old then probably yes as it’s the home of Walt Disney’s World Resort. Everything there is Disney and there’s little getting away from it, especially if you’re accompanying kids. The area was ceded to the Disney Corporation in the 50s and 60s with Disney’s influence over the area growing steadily. They even renamed the lake, previously called Black Lake.
How do I get to Lake Buena Vista?
Orlando International Airport is only 20 miles away and, if you’re staying in the Disney resort, a free Magic Kingdom bus will transfer you there and give you an indication of what’s to come! Flights land there from many American and European destinations so you’ll find it very easy to get to. You can hire a car from the airport too which will give you the chance to escape from all things Disney if you feel the need.
What do I Need to see Whilst There?
You are likely to be led by the younger members of your group there so planning an itinerary is almost pointless. There are the must-visit Disney stores for memorability and the Disney parade but between those you’ll be dragged to the rides, take part in photo opportunities with Disney characters and be nagged for food and drink.
Is There any way to Escape?
As long as someone else looks after the children there’s a great golf course for winding down and simply enjoying the peace. Apart from that, if you’ve hired a car it’s worth taking the family to see the delights of
Tampa on the coast and the less cloying attractions of Busch Gardens.
