Car Hire & Mini Guide Corsica
Corsica is a large island in the Mediterranean Sea which is of French heritage and lies off the south coast of
France. The island has welcomed tourists over the years and specifically sought to preserve its natural beauty in the interests of encouraging eco-tourism. Because of this welcoming attitude to visitors, Corsica has four airports which are Ajaccio, Bastia, Figari and Calvi.
Rhino Car Hire can set you up with a wide range of rental vehicles from any of these four airports which is a good thing as there is no decent public transportation to speak of. Planning your trip well ahead of time will mean that we can have the rental car ready and waiting for you so that you do not have to fight the crowds and end up making your holiday stressful. The island is a great place to go if you like walking because it is mainly mountainous, while of course many visitors like to sunbathe on the beach or try their hand at various water sports such as snorkelling, jet skiing and scuba diving. When the conditions are right you can go windsurfing or kite boarding too.
Corsica has a famous mountain walk which takes 17 days and is called the GR (Grand Randonnee) 20. The only occasional danger with this walk is when there are large thunder storms as some people have been struck by lightning. Should you want to take on this epic adventure you will of course need a map.
There are other very pleasant trails which are not so demanding and take in sea views as well as mountain air which you can try as well. However these walks still take at least 10 days to complete so may not be your cup of tea if you are looking to take it easy in Corsica. If you need to recuperate after one of these walks Corsica has good traditional Mediterranean food many based on the staples of pork and olives.
If you are arriving from France it is also possible to get a ferry from places such as
Nice,
Toulon and
Marseille, or alternatively come from
Genoa, Livorno, Savona and Naples in Italy. The high speed boat from
Nice to Calvi is the quickest, most scenic and most convenient of these options as it drops you off right in the centre of town where you can collect your rental vehicle.
