Skelleftea Mini Guide
What can you Tell me About Skelleftea?
It’s an industrial town with the focus on gold mining and consumer electronics but it still manages to retain an attractive appeal to visitors. The outskirts of the city are particularly attractive and you can find completely isolated places within ten minutes of the city boundaries.
How Easy is it to get to Skelleftea?
The city has its own international airport but most of the flights are seasonal and to holiday destinations. It does have a single domestic route to Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport
which, courtesy of several companies’ routes out of the London
airports, means that it’s quite easy to get a connecting flight from the UK
. Once at Skelleftea Airport, it’s a good idea to have pre-booked a hire car in advance as stocks are not large and you may be left disappointed. The journey from the airport to the city is around ten to fifteen minutes.
What is Skelleftea Airport Like?
For the tenth busiest domestic airport in Sweden it’s very light on facilities. The airport itself looks a little ancient and inside, whilst the airport authorities have tried their best to make the airport amenable to travellers, there are no shops other than a small kiosk selling snacks, newspapers, magazines and travel essentials and only a basic café for indifferent food if you can’t wait for the airline food! One bonus is that the airport offers free wireless internet across the terminal so if you want to shop, you can do it online.
