Gran Canaria Airport Mini Guide

Tell me About the Airport
Gran Canaria Airport, previously known as Las Palmas Airport is located to the east of the island of Gran Canaria in Spain. It is the 5th busiest airport in Spain and has one terminal divided into 3 zones, A for EU flights, B for International flights and C for flights within the Canary Islands. The airport has such long runways it can be used as an alternative landing point for the NASA space shuttle.

How can I get to Gran Canaria?
Almost 50 airlines fly into the airport, so from Europe it is very easy to get there and you can island hop from the other Canary Islands. Flights from some cities in West Africa are also available.

How do I get to my Resort or the City?
Las Palmas is 18km away from the airport and the resorts are approximately 25kms away to the south of the island. Bus services 60 and 66 take you to Las Palmas and Faro de Maspalomas. Driving is a good option to really explore the island, pick up your hire car from the office at Zone A, P Floor. The GC1 motorway will take you from the north to the south of the island.

What is at the Airport for me?
There are information desks in all 3 zones should you have any enquiries about the airport. Gran Canaria Tourist Information Office is in Zone A, you can find out more about the islands attractions or book excursions there. If you need to change your ticket or book a hotel, El Corte Ingles travel agency will help you out. To exchange currency go to Caja Canarias Bank and if you need cash fast there are ATMs located around the terminal. If you would like to wait in comfort you can use the Galdos VIP Lounge for a small fee, there you can catch up on the latest news and have some refreshments. There is a post office at the airport and also a children’s play area for young travellers.

Can I get Something to eat?
Have a quick coffee at Café Select or a sandwich at Upper Crust. For breakfast or something more substantial try Cafeteria Sabina. Delis Wrap and Go is a great place to stop for healthy and creative cuisine or if you are just thirsty try O’Learys pub.

What About the Shopping?
If you are looking for designer brands like Burberry and Tommy Hilfiger go to Shop In Store and browse the rails. For all your duty free items, go to Canariensis and see what special offers they have. Airzone is the store for everything, whether you are looking for music and snacks or emergency toiletries. If you love food you really should visit Productos, you can buy a wide range of food items from the island even tobacco and liquors made locally. Next go to Libreria Reclierdos and buy a local cook book or tourist guide. A pharmacy and flower shop can also be found at the airport.

What if I Need Extra Help?
Aena Airports operate a ‘free barrier’ service for passengers with reduced mobility. You should contact the airport information service for further assistance.

There’s so much more to do in the Canaries than the beaches and clubs and Gran Canaria is no exception. Not far from the heaving beaches of Maspalomas is the national park of Las Dunas de Maspalomas. There, amongst the monster sand dunes you can hire dune buggies to go out and explore or visit the park centre which has an informative display on the life of the dunes.

If you’ve hired a car and head inland to Valsequillo you’ll see a different natural side to the island again with fertile valleys and pine clad mountains.
