Brisbane Airport Mini Guide

The Airport in Brief
Brisbane is Australia’s 3rd busiest airport after Sydney and Melbourne serving 23m passengers in 2017. Split into domestic and international terminals on different sites, make sure you head for the correct one! The airport has copious parking and this is currently being extended further to accommodate expected rises in passenger numbers over the next five years. Parking is split into long stay, short stay and valet parking at varying prices. The airport is less than four miles from the city.

Getting There
As a major hub, 36 airlines serve Brisbane. It’s a major airport for Virgin Australia and is served by budget airlines; Jetstar and Pacific Blue. New routes are being planned to Japan and to China with Air Japan looking to reinstate flights to Tokyo.

How Do I Get to my Next Destination?
There’s a train station integrated into the airport and the Airtrain, leaves every 15 minutes at peak times for a 22 minute journey into the city. Bus company Coachtrans Australia run a number of routes to the city, the port and the Gold and Sunshine Coasts which include pre-booked collection and drop off at your door as well as major accommodation stops. Taxis are readily available at the airport and accessed immediately outside the terminal building. Driving yourself is a good option as there are good road links down Moreton Drive to the Gateway Motorway and Airport Drive to Southern Cross Way. The car hire company desks are located in various parts of the arrivals hall immediately after baggage reclaim. It’s definitely worth sending a driver on ahead to locate the correct desk and to start queuing in such a busy airport.

Public Information
For passenger and tourist information, look out for the yellow and blue sign on level two. There, trained staff can help on a variety of topics.

  • There are two Travelex outlets offering exchange facilities on different floors of the airport together with a number of ATMs.
  • Passengers have two options for shopping at the airport. Those with plenty of time on arrival or departure should follow the signs off the motorway to the Airport Village. Here a variety of stores, large and small are located, selling a wide range of products at outlet prices. For those in more of a rush, there are a number of stores in the airport building, both before and after security, selling fashion wear, accessories and electrical goods. There is a newsagents and bookshop too. After security options are limited to standard duty free goods of alcohol, tobacco products, perfumery and gifts.
  • There are plenty of options for eating at the airport. Light meals or snacks are available from a variety of outlets together with café and snack food along with the obligatory fast food outlets. For those simply wanting a drink and a snack, a bar is available too.
  • First aid facilities are available with trained first aiders in attendance. It can be found in the public area just after arrivals.

Assistance is readily available should it be necessary and the airport has been designed to make access to all public areas simple. It is still recommended that you inform your airline before travelling so that necessary steps can be taken to assist you.
