Liverpool Airport Mini Guide

The Airport
Imagine... you’re in Northwest England with a yellow submarine to greet you at the entrance.  Then inside the terminal and checking in for your low-budget flight, over-looked by the bronze statue of a former Beatle.  It can only be Liverpool John Lennon Airport. One might be fooled into thinking that this place has an identity crisis, being formerly known as Speke Airport, RAF Speke and Liverpool Airport before receiving its most recent name in 2002.  The varying names simply reflect a rather eventful history.

Liverpool Airport
Whether you love football or adore the Beatles, want to take the famous ferry across the Mersey in a splendid city named European Capital of Culture, or if you are simply passing through to somewhere else, Liverpool John Lennon Airport is an affordable and fun destination, where there is a lot to please you.

Getting There
From the late 1990s the airport saw a decade of unbelievable growth and today is the 10th busiest airport in the UK.  Despite this it is host to only 5 airlines and forms a base for Ryan Air and easyJet.  With easyJet, it was a feature airport on the television reality documentary "Airline".  There are routes to and from over 70 destinations across Europe and with passenger numbers topping 5 million in 2018, you’ll never walk alone.
Getting to Your Destination
Landing at Liverpool opens up an array of onward routes.  Use local buses, taxis or rail routes to venture into the city and onto numerous other northern destinations.  If you want to go further, it's an ideal place for booking connecting flights to domestic and European airports.  A regular bus service operates from the airport to local railway stations, including Liverpool South Parkway, which opens important links to the main railway networks.
There are excellent onward routes via the Merseyside road network, with the airport close to 3 motorways: M56, M57 and M62.  This makes car hire ideal.  If you have booked a hire car with Rhino, collect it from the car hire area just off the entrance/ exit roundabout to the airport site and next to the Pricebuster car park.
What if I Have Reduced Mobility and Need 'Help!'?

There’s help available.  Make use of excellent facilities, including special assistance services and an Ambulift.  There’s disabled parking, wheelchair access and low-level telephones to name a few helpful modifications at your disposal.  To avoid disappointment, please ensure that your airline is informed of any special requirements when booking your travel.
Can't buy me Love... but There's Plenty of Other Shopping!
The modernised passenger terminal was opened by The Queen in 2002.  Whether you are a browser or a big spender, lose track of time in popular stores which sit alongside quaint souvenir shops like "With Love from Liverpool".
You are spoilt for choices of food and drink, with numerous bars, cafes and restaurants including JD Wetherspoon, Caffe Ritazza and the Estuary Kitchen & Grill.

Look out for the special “Funday Fridays” in the departure lounge, providing regular entertainment with free drinks and tasters.  For those preferring relaxation, there are several lounges and "art in the airport" offers events and exhibitions to peruse. With good links, a focus on cost-effectiveness and lots to entertain different tastes, all your troubles will seem so far away at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Latest Update from Liverpool Airport:

27/02/13 - The departure of KLM from the airport dramatically reduced passenger numbers but with several new routes beginning this summer including easyJet's flights to Newquay and Nantes plus the arival of new airline Norwegian Air Shuttle, things are looking up for the airport.
