Salt Lake City Airport

What can you tell me About Salt Lake City?
Salt Lake City is the biggest city and capital of Utah in the American Mid-West. It’s named after the Great Salt Lake, found nearby, which attracts millions of visitors each year as it is considered the ‘American Dead Sea’ because of the high levels of salt it contains. The city itself is renowned as the home of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, otherwise known as the Mormons. Many of the city’s sights are linked to the church including Temple Square and the Salt Lake Temple, the Gothic style focal point for all Mormons but not open to the general public.

How do I get to Salt Lake City?
Four miles away from the business district you’ll find the city’s international airport that last year served 21m passengers. International in name, the airport mainly accepts flights from the North American continent with only a single flight from Paris bringing European travellers to Salt Lake City. Travellers from the UK will have to first travel to Paris before catching the Delta flight to the city. There is also a Delta flight from Tokyo. Transport to the city can be by rental car, bus, shuttle or taxi and a company called ADA offer a service into the city for disabled passengers.

What is Salt Lake City Airport Like?
The airport has two terminals with Terminal 1 having two concourses and Terminal 2 having three. International flights are dealt with in Terminal 2, concourse D. The size of the airport and increasing passenger numbers has meant that the airport is now creating a new 700,000 square foot building to replace the existing two terminals and arrivals building. Work is hoped to finish in 2020, easing congestion at the airport.

What Should I do When I Arrive at Salt Lake City Airport?
The aircraft will come to a stop against one of the jet bridges that leads directly into one of the airport’s five concourses from where, if you’re an international passenger, you’ll walk down to the security barrier for checks and on to customs and immigration control. From there a short walk will take you into the upper level of the terminal where you’ll find a bank and ATMs plus the notice of your baggage reclaim belt. You’ll need to go down the escalator to get to your luggage and on that level you can cross to the rental car garage opposite the exit for the terminal. If you get lost in the mass of humanity there, the airport information desk will put you on the right track.

What Should I do When I Leave Salt Lake City?
A good start is to drop off your luggage at the check in and collect boarding passes. From there you can take advantage of the shopping and dining facilities in the public area or go straight through security and visit the shops and perhaps grab a meal before your flight is called. There are plenty to keep you occupied on both sides of security and allowing a little more time before your flight is a good idea for shopaholics. Free internet access is provided at the airport too so those with a laptop can catch up with work whilst waiting.
