Myrtle Beach Airport
Myrtle Beach International Airport is located 5 kilometres from the center of the town of Myrtle Beach in
South Carolina. The airport was initially an Air Force base only until 1975 when it began to handle commercial flights also. By 1976 the airport replaced the previous preferred airport for the area. The airport continued to be a joint operation for both military and commercial flights until 1993 when the Airforce base was closed and the airport became a purely commercial flight operation. The airport is owned by the county.
A variety of aircraft and flights use the airport and around 154 flights are handled every day on the one runway. The airlines have use of seven gates and six gate areas for arrivals and departures. The airport has ample facilities for the public with many popular retail chains and food and beverage outlets to cater for demand. There are several airlines that fly in and out of Myrtle Beach Airport including Continental and Delta and with US airways having the most flights in operation. The airstrip also used to be the hub for the infamous Hooters Airways which no longer fly and it is also an emergency land location for the space shuttle.
Myrtle Beach Airport has ample parking facilities for long stay, short stay and economy parking. There are two lots one situated at the south end of the terminal which is designated for economy parking and one lot directly in front of the terminal which is allocated to long and short stay.
Myrtle Beach is a very popular beach destination in South Carolina but if you don’t want to rub shoulders with the nearly 15m other visitors each year to the beach, hire a car from Myrtle Beach Airport and head south to quieter beaches such as those found in Huntington Beach State Park.
Of course, the beach may not be your priority, instead you may need a rental car to fit you, your golfing buddies and your clubs in before heading to one of the city’s many golf courses. With car hire from Myrtle Beach Airport we’ve thought of that and offer estate cars and hatchbacks with plenty of room for both clubs and golf partners. You’ll find car hire a much easier way to get around Myrtle Beach and at a surprisingly low price.
