Allentown Mini Guide

What can you Tell me About Allentown?
It is a historic place with a heritage stretching back over two hundred years. It saw drama in the War of Independence when the Liberty Bell was hidden there to prevent it falling into the hands of the British and was an important military target for both sides. Following the war, the building of the Lehigh Canal saw the city take full advantage of the industrial revolution and it grew dramatically.
How do I get to Allentown?
Three miles away in the Lehigh Valley you’ll find Lehigh Valley International Airport which has flights from all across the east coast and Toronto. Travellers from outside the US and Canada will need to connect to one of the major US east coast airports before flying on to Leigh Valley. The airport is large and well connected to the city by bus link, taxi and car hire.

What is There to Do in Allentown?
Allentown is a cultural and sporting hotspot in Pennsylvania. There’s skiing nearby in winter and plenty of golf courses for the summer. One of the world’s best but least known amusement parks, Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom with six renowned rollercoasters, is nearby and a popular draw with thrill-seeking tourists. For the less active, there is a city symphony orchestra, a theatre and art galleries. Make sure you try to visit the Liberty Bell Museum for the story of how and where the bell was hidden from the British in the Revolutionary War.
