Mini Guide to Mississippi
How do I get to Mississippi?
It’s not easy with no direct flights to any of its airports from outside US borders. The only way to get to Mississippi from outside the US is to take a flight to one of the major airports that has connections to Biloxi or Jackson-Evers and connect from there. The best ones will depend on price but flights come into Mississippi from Atlanta
so check fare prices carefully for the best deal. Once in the state, hire a car at the airport so that you immediately have your own means of getting around the state.
What are the Best Things to do in Mississippi?
One of the best is to take a paddle steamer cruise on the Mississippi River. Several of the old boats have been renovated and provide pleasure or dinner cruises up the river as well as hosting weddings on board. Much of the shoreline of the river has remained unchanged from the days of Mark Twain and a river trip is one of the state’s great experiences.
The city of Natchez is also fascinating having many old mansions that were built before the civil war and so are called antebellum homes. Make sure you visit the Civil War Battlefield Park at Vicksburg. Spread out over a large area it will take you at least a day to see it all including the Cairo battleship. Finally take some time out to listen to Mississippi’s own form of Blues music born of the sultry climate and hard life there.
