Boston Airport Mini Guide

What is Boston all About?
Boston is the capital of Massachusetts and unofficially the capital of the region known as New England. It is one of the oldest cities in the US having been founded by Puritan colonists in 1630. It became synonymous with the American Revolution with major events such as the Boston Tea Party and the Boston Massacre being catalysts for the revolution. The city is very popular with tourists and its historic Faneuil Hall attracts over 20m visitors annually. The city had many of the nation’s firsts including the first private school and the first metro system. Today it is one of the most expensive US cities to live in but proud of its ancestry.

What’s the Best Way to Get Into Boston?
Logan International Airport serves the city and is only three miles from the city centre. Last year it served nearly four million passengers from a wide range of continental destinations including three operators from London Heathrow. It also has an American budget airline, JetBlue, operating to many US cities. Ways into the city include the subway, buses, taxis and unusually, a water taxi.

What’s the Airport Like?
The airport is a shiny, modern one with loads of stainless steel, glass and bright lighting. You could almost be on board a spaceship! There are four terminals; A, B, C and E with up to a quarter mile walk between them although there are shuttle buses for the less fit. The facilities befit a large international airport so you won’t be disappointed there.

What can I Expect When I Land at Boston Airport?
You can expect a very smoothly operated airport. From the walkways from the plane door into the terminal to the efficient and friendly security checks and the quick baggage reclaim, everything is planned to get you on your way as quickly as possible. After the walk into the arrivals hall, which, depending on your arrival gate, could be a long one, you’ll be able to seek any advice you need from the information desk, easily located in the centre of the hall.

If you’re collecting a hire car so you can tour not only Boston but also the rest of New England, then you’ll need to take the shuttle to the car rental building away from the main terminals. For public transport, signs will direct you down to road level for you to catch buses or taxis or down a further level for the subway into the city.

What Will the Day of My Departure Bring at the Airport?
You’ll be looking forward to handing over your luggage and making your way to the shopping and dining areas of the airport. Nearly fifty restaurants, cafes and take away outlets are ready to feed you. You have a choice of haute cuisine served in elegant surroundings or a ‘grab and go’ bite from the likes of McDonalds or KFC. Once you’ve satisfied your hunger, head for the shopping malls found in all the terminals. There’s nothing you could want for your journey that you can’t buy there including books, music, clothes, travel accessories, electricals etc. and the list goes on. The airport even has free Wi-Fi for those that want to surf rather than shop.
