Olbia Airport Mini Guide

Olbia Airport in Brief
Olbia, or Costa Smeralda Airport is found only a mile away from Olbia city centre and is well served with public transport. There is plenty of parking, split into three sections but with long and short term parking plus free parking for the disabled. Last year over a million people used its facilities and it is one of Italy’s busiest airports.

Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport

How you can get There
24 airlines fly to Olbia with a range of national scheduled carriers both domestic and international and budget airlines together with some seasonal charter flights. Meridiana and Berlin Fly are the two biggest operators there.

Onward Travel After Arriving at the Airport
There are no trains from the airport but the number 2 and 10 buses drop off at the station in Olbia from where all the major island destinations can be accessed. The buses continue to drop off at locations around the city before returning to the airport. Coaches from Turmo Travel leave from the airport for longer distance locations across the island.

Olbia station

Car hire is a useful option there with the desks conveniently located in the arrivals hall just after customs. Pre-booking is a good idea to ensure you get the car of your choice and as Olbia is a reasonably busy airport, it may be worth sending a member of your party through to the check in desks whilst others wait for luggage. Taxis are also available to take you into Olbia city centre but please agree a price before the journey for your security.

Public Information
At Olbia there is a combined desk for tourist information, airport information and lost luggage. The staff pride themselves on an efficient and friendly service.

There are no bank branches at Olbia, just two ATMs. Branches of several local and national banks can be found in Olbia itself.

Olbia Airport has a first aid room with a qualified member of staff to help if needed. It can be found to the right of the public area, just after arrivals.

Wi-Fi is available across the airport on a pay per use basis.

If you Wish to Shop
Shopping at Olbia Airport is excellent, both before and after security. There is a wide range of fashion shops, gift shops and outlets selling locally produced items as well as a newsagent/bookseller. Beyond security there is a duty free store selling alcohol and tobacco products, perfumes and gifts plus small electrical items.

Hungry Passengers
Dining provision is good there too with an a la carte restaurant, pizzeria, snack bar plus a wine bar and standard café/bar. Beyond security there is a small café/snack bar for last minute refuelling.

Extra Assistance That is Provided
Olbia takes the welfare of disabled passengers very seriously and call points with intercoms are available in the car parks and at the entrance to the departures area. There is also a ‘Sala Amica’ quiet room for disabled people to be able to wait in comfort and peace and for arriving passengers there is a meeting point after baggage reclaim. Furthermore, throughout the terminal, tactile paving has been installed for visually impaired passengers. General assistance is available for disabled travellers but it is recommended that you inform your airline before travelling so that necessary steps can be taken to assist you. The airport conforms to EU law on disability provision.

If you travel from the mainland of Italy to Sardinia, the chances are that you’ll arrive at Olbia. It’s the main entry point for the island of Sardinia and a key starting point for holidays on the island. Sardinia is a big island which takes some time to explore properly.

There are unspoilt deserted beaches and tranquil mountain meadows just waiting to be discovered. From there, a hire car is ideal for touring the island and many people choose to book the first night’s accommodation before setting off, asking their hotel to book their onward accommodation.
