La Rochelle Mini Guide
La Rochelle is a seaside town in
France which is part of the Charente Maritime department. La Rochelle overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and the Bay of Biscay in an extremely pretty setting. As La Rochelle is on the west coast of France it gets a lot of tourism from the UK
and there are daily flights which go between La Rochelle and London Stansted
Car hire in La Rochelle works out much cheaper in the long run than taking the taxis which go from outside the main airport terminal building. While they cost 15 Euros a time, for that price you can get a Rhino car for a whole day, and go wherever you want courtesy of our unlimited mileage offer. Within La Rochelle ours cars are rented from the major local ad international agencies which are located outside of the train terminal in the centre of town.
The main place worth seeing in La Rochelle is the old port - Le Vieux Porte. You will see three old defensive towers which have been there for many centuries in order to guard the harbour. They are the Tour St. Nicolas, the Tour de la Lanterne and the Tour de la Chaine. They involve climbing some stairs but the entry fee is very low at only five Euros, and you will find the staff there to be helpful, especially as they speak both French and English.
Remember that booking car hire at La Rochelle Airport with Rhino is also an option if you want to collect a vehicle as soon as you land. If arriving at one of the nearby major airports, Bordeaux
is a popular choice and car hire Bordeaux Airport
is a great option to make the 120km journey to La Rochelle.
