Lorient Mini Guide
Why Should I Fly to Lorient Airport?
Lorient Airport serves the city of Lorient which was an important German submarine base during the Second World War. Once you’ve learned enough of the history, take one of the passenger ferries from the harbour and visit the beautiful islands of Groix and Belle-Ile-en-Mer where you’ll be able to experience a quieter way of life amongst stunning scenery.
How do I Get There?
Ryanair operate a flight to Lorient but not from the
UK. Instead you’ll have to use the little known British regional airline Eastern, which flies from
Southampton, making the journey in around an hour. Flights are very reasonable and, when you add in low cost Lorient car hire, you’ll enjoy a great value break.
What is the Region Like?
The airport serves the small city of Lorient which is a busy port. There’s not a huge amount to see and do there although the area around the marina has good shopping and some classy places to eat. Instead, head out to the islands in the bay or travel south in your hire car perhaps to the pretty fishing port of La Rochelle. Alternatively, head north west and explore Brittany.
What is the Airport Like?
There’s a reasonable amount of facilities to keep you occupied whilst waiting for your flight. A decent restaurant will keep hunger at bay and a small selection of shops allows you to buy those last minute gifts. You’ll find Wi-Fi, cash machines and postal facilities there too.
