Welcome to the Home of Santa and his Reindeer!
Lapland is best known for being the home of Santa Claus and Rudolph and it must be every child's dream to visit this paradise in the snow. Just imagine waking up to the ground thick with snow and having an exciting day ahead – driving a team of huskies pulling your very own sleigh, or how about snow mobiling, tobogganing or ice fishing? The list is endless and that's before you even think about meeting the man himself or his elves. Have a private visit with Santa just for you and your family, see your children's faces as they take in all the sights and excitement of this truly magical place.

Keep as Warm as Toast!
You may be put off Lapland by the thought of the extreme cold, but don't worry, when you book a holiday there you will be asked for your clothes and shoe sizes so that when you arrive your thermal clothing and boots will be waiting for you. This means you can enjoy every single aspect of your holiday and still keep warm and cosy.

For Those Too Old for Santa - Is Anyone?!
Although Lapland is most famous for it's association with Santa, there are many other sides to this area of the world. It is also famous for it's nature, the forests where the reindeer roam change completely from being deep in snow during late autumn, winter and early spring to a place where nature comes alive and the trees flourish in the summer months.  There are numerous sporting activities – cycling the nature trails, rafting in the rivers swollen by melted snow, hiking or just picking berries – this part of the world is famous for it's blueberries, lingonberries and especially cloudberries.

Land of the Midnight Sun
This is Lapland's other name – whilst the sun doesn't rise above the horizon in the depths of winter, neither does it set below the horizon in the height of summer, especially if you cross the Arctic Circle where the duration of the Midnight Sun lasts longer. If you visit Lapland in the summer it may be as well to take an eye mask with you or at least make sure your accommodation has blackout blinds, just to make sure you get some sleep!

Would You Like to See How the Laplanders Live?
There are numerous ethnographic museums all over Lapland showing how the Laplanders live and have lived in the past. Learn how these people have survived throughout the ages in a land made so hostile by the weather.  Or visit the Goldprospector Museum at Tankavaara, this unusual museum – the only one of it's kind in the world, covers the history of gold prospecting in Lapland from the 1870's to recent years.

Finally How About An Icy Dip?
The ultimate lifetime experience must be to take a trip on the Sampo Ice Breaker watching as she pushes her way through the ice cover and then take a dip in the icy water – definitely not for the faint hearted!

Latest Update from Lapland:

21/05/12 - From August 4th to 6th you can take part, alongside experts, in the Finnish Goldpanning Open Championships at Tankavaara. The sole aim is to 'pan' as much gold out of the stream in an hour but it's harder than you'd imagine. Give it a go though - you may strike it rich!
