Tamworth Mini Guide
What can you Tell me About Tamworth?
Tamworth has a long and interesting history, being at one point the largest town in the Midlands, bigger at the time than Birmingham. It developed as a strategic town at the confluence of two rivers and as time passed, developed industries of its own that fuelled the town’s growth. Now eclipsed by Birmingham, it’s a busy satellite town.
How Easy is it to get into Tamworth?
It’s very easy to access Tamworth from abroad with Birmingham International Airport, only twenty minutes away. There are many European flights to Birmingham as well as two North American routes, car hire at Birmingham Airport
is well catered for and of course we can arrange this for you. Alternative airports include Liverpool’s John Lennon airport, around an hour and a half away. Trains come into Tamworth from Birmingham and Liverpool so it’s easy to get there from the airport and hire a car in Tamworth rather than have to drive from the airport.
What can I do in and Around Tamworth?
Make sure you visit the Snow Dome, even if you’re not a skier it’s a fascinating place to see proper snow, admittedly machine generated, shrouding the slope giving an authentic feel to the ski experience. The Belfry Golf Course, home of several world championships is an easy distance away by hire car and if you’ve got the money and book ahead, you might even be lucky enough to play there. Tamworth Castle in the town centre is interesting, especially considering its historical links. You can easily spend an absorbing afternoon looking around it.
02/05/13 - On the second of November in theTamworth Castle Grounds you can enjoy one of the best firework displays in the north accompanied by a funfair and games.
