Aylesbury Mini Guide

History of Aylesbury
Located in the county of Buckinghamshire, Aylesbury was an important market town for the Anglo-Saxons and it sticks out from the landscape around it because it was built on an outcrop of limestone. In the 16th century King Henry VIII declared Aylesbury the county town of Buckinghamshire and he gave its manor to Thomas Boleyn, the father of Anne (one of his many wives). Becoming a stronghold for parliamentarian forces, Aylesbury later played an important role in the English Civil War. Aylesbury became notorious in the 1960’s because the Great Train Robbers had carried out their astounding crime only six miles away and were tried in Aylesbury Crown Court.
