Phoenix is the fifth largest city in the United States. It is the capital of Arizona which was founded in 1871. Even though Phoenix is in the middle of the desert, there is plenty to see and many places of interest to visit. There are a number of museums which pay homage to the Native American Arts and also take a fascinating look at the ancient inhabitants of the area.
The Heard Museum has the most fantastic collection of Hopi Kachina Dolls, these were given to the children to familiarise themselves with the Kachina spirits of which there are over 200. The Desert Botanical Garden shows us the plant life around the Sonoran Desert and arid land areas around the world. There are lots of places to pamper yourself too, one being the Arizona Grand Spa, who tempt you with a wide variety of spa treatments to rejuvenate your mind, body and soul. Or why not take in a round of golf at the Arizona Grand Golf Course and finish the day watching a show or maybe an opera or just sit and relax to the sounds of the Phoenix Symphony. Sport features highly in Arizona, with the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Arizona Cardinals NFL, the famous Phoenix suns NBA and the Phoenix Coyotes NHL.
Phoenix is served by two airports. Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport which is fifteen miles from Downtown Phoenix. The second is Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport which is located east of Phoenix, so car rental is advised.
