Kusadasi Mini Guide
What Makes Kusadasi so Popular?
The town has an attractive location on a bay with a prominent peninsular sheltering it. Together with its nice beach, it seemed the perfect place to develop a holiday resort and for several decades has proved popular with the Turkish themselves and Northern Europeans. There are many archaeological sites nearby too, attracting the historians and pilgrims who come to see the house where Mary is said to have lived after the death of Christ.
How do I get to Kusadasi?
The easiest way is to fly into Izmir Airport, around an hour away from the resort. It’s a big and busy airport with plenty of flights from the UK
and Europe, many with the budget airlines. You can hire a car from the airport but many prefer to take the airport bus into Kusadasi after a long tiring flight and then hire a car in Kusadasi when they arrive.
What can I See and Do in the Resort?
There’s the great beach to enjoy which has plenty of facilities including beach bars and cafes, water sports and more. Spend some time discussing carpets in the local shops, you don’t have to buy, but seeing them and listening to how they’re made is an education. Drive your hire car out to Ephesus, one of the important cities of the New Testament. You can visit the iconic library there and the home where Mary, the mother of Jesus, is said to have spent her last years. Finally, use your hire car to venture inland and see traditional Turkish villages where time seems to have stood still.
