Calvi Mini Guide
On the French island of Corsica
is Calvi which especially during summer months see tourism as being a major industry. Many choose to visit Calvi as a pretty alternative to the capital Bastia which is 95 km away and the many attractions that it has to offer.
Transport to and from the town is good, with the airport providing a quick way to get there by air, you can also opt for the train service. The service connects to a range of destinations such as Bastia, Ponte Leccia and L'lle Rousse.
Citedel is the main attraction in the area where tourists tend to visit. The main reason for its popularity is it's rumoured that the 13th century building is where Christopher Columbus was born. Although there is no proof as of yet locals firmly believe this is the case.
Within the Citedel you can also access the Museum of Corsica. Inside you will find many items from the island showing some of its culture and history. Guided tours are available also. Around the building you will find many small cobbled streets which are perfect for general sightseeing, or just a stroll. Along the way you will find a range of small cafes which are perfect for relaxation and refreshments.
The town has a good mix of things to do and see due to it having around 4 miles of white beach, bars, restaurants and a cultural old town - all great ways to spend your time.
The beach is where you will find most tourists during the summer period due to the good weather. The beach is known for its white sand and clear waters where you can simply sunbathe or try some of the activities. These include water skiing, paragliding and windsurfing.
