Zaventem Airport, also known as Brussels airport (or BRU) is just 11km north east of Brussels city, in the district of Zaventem. The airport has one main terminal, which then divides into 2 piers.
How do I Get There?
Over 80 airlines fly into Zaventem Airport and it is one of Europe’s largest hubs for connecting flights. You'll arrive at one of Zaventem's 3 runways depending on which airline you arrive on. Flights from the
UK,
France,
Germany,
Switzerland,
Italy and
Austria arrive daily.
How do I Get to The City?
The airport has its own rail station, Brussels National Station at level 1. From there you can catch a train to the city centre (Brussels Central), they leave the airport 4 times per hour. On the MIVB (trams, buses and metro service) you can travel to the European Quarter of the city, on lines 12 and 21, the journey taking about 30 minutes. The bus station is on level 0, at the airport and you leave from platform C. By car, the best route is the A201 and R0 highway.
What Facilities Does The Airport Have?
Travelex provide currency exchange in various locations around the airport. There are plenty of ATMs also including ones that issue
US dollars or Pound Sterling. Wi-Fi access is available throughout, you just need to buy online at the portal. You can also use the internet at the Communication Centre. Mobile phones can be rented from here too. If you have hired a car, the car hire desks are situated just outside the arrivals area.
What if I Get Hungry?
In the main terminal, you can have a healthy smoothie at Helixir Smoothie Bar or snack on a toasted sandwich at Provencette Promenade. For something more substantial, try an American style burger at Flying Tigers. In Pier A, you can treat yourself to a delicious seafood meal at Black Pearls or a glass of wine and tapas at Beaudevin or just grab pizza at Pizza Hut Express. If you find yourself in Pier B, you can sample Sushi at the Seafood and Wine bar or have a beer and a snack at Leffe Plaza. If you need more options, you can try the self service restaurant Brussels Plaza.
What Can I Buy There?
There is an abundance of shops at Zaventem Airport, everything from fine gourmet foods at Gourmets, luxury brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss and Burberry, to diamonds at Gautam Diamonds - so if you love to shop, leave plenty of time! In the main terminal there is a pharmacy, travel agent and supermarket, for all last minute emergencies. In Pier A, you can grab a best seller from Bookshop, browse the latest fashions at River Woods, Massimo Dutti or Espirit and treat yourself to real Belgian chocolates at the Chocolate Factory. In Pier B you can buy a new bag at Leather, buy a trendy watch at Watches and Jewellery and search for a new outfit to match at Gautam Fashion or Leaders.
