The United Arab Emirates is a federal state made up of seven emirates, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm AI Quwain. Each emirate is governed separately by an Emir, all seven Emirs then form the Federal Supreme Council.
The UAE is one of the top ten oil producers in the world with most of the oil reserves in Abu Dhabi which is no 6 in the World. Most of the oil is produced in the Zakum field.
Since the Ukraine Russia War, fuel prices have soared although they are still well below the prices reached in the UK and the United States. The citizens of the Emirates have long thought it a birth right to be entitles to cheap fuel. There is no income tax in the UEA but VAT at a rate of 5% is applied to fuel.
