Customer questions about Cardiff Airport car hire

Hi Fiona, I am looking at renting an Avensis from Cardiff Airport. Is there a facility to pay extra to waive damage or theft excesses?

Hi, we offer an excess protection policy, the cost varies dependent on the rental duration, you will be offered this once you select the car you are interested in. It may not be a Toyoya Avensis that you are provided with at Cardiff Airport however, it would be a similar class car, eg Mondeo, Insignia, Passat, would that be ok?

Cardiff Airport Mini Guide

Cardiff Airport is the main airport for the country of Wales and every year around 1.2 million passengers arrive at the airport, mostly from west, mid and south Wales. Cardiff Airport is not actually located in Wales’ capital itself, but in the nearby village of Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan which is almost 20 kilometres outside of Cardiff.

Cardiff Airport Terminal

The busiest route from Cardiff Airport goes to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport with the airline KLM Cityhopper. Other popular routes (in the order of their popularity) are to Palma de Mallorca in Spain with Thomas Cook and Thomson Airways, to Edinburgh Airport in Scotland with Flybe and to Alicante Airport in Spain with Thomson Airways.

Cardiff is an easily accessible airport as it is only a 15 minute drive away from the M4 motorway which goes towards the west of Wales. If you are trying to find the airport from the M4 you can take junction 33 which is signposted to Cardiff West. Alternatively the A4232 road which is signposted to Cardiff central will take you there, though you should turn off towards Culverhouse Cross.

Cardiff Airport

Cardiff Airport is continually growing in terms of usage, meaning that the roads around it are being expanded to cope with demand. There are three possible ways in which this might happen. It could involve widening the A4232 road so that three lanes are in use or building a bypass road connecting the A4232 road to the A48 road. Alternatively cars may be directed from Junction 34 of the M4 motorway to Sycamore Cross and the A4226 (which leads to Cardiff Airport).

Car hire Cardiff is popular for sports events as many important rugby and cricket matches are held at the impressive Millennium Stadium in Wales’ capital city. So why not book today to avoid the rush?

Latest Update from Cardiff Airport:

15/05/12 - Whilst Cardiff Airport has lost the business from Bmibaby, reducing passenger numbers through the airport, new routes to Orlando with Monarch and the introduction of three new Spanish routes through Vueling this summer should redress the balance.

03/06/13 - After two years of a cumulative decline in passengers to only just over a million, Cardiff Airport has been bought by the Welsh Government who will shortly announce plans to revive its fortunes.
