Car Rental in Santa Fe Mini Guide
Santa Fe is a fascinating city of around 70,000 people which has incredible architecture and cultural attractions. It is also the oldest state capital in the United States. Its proximity to the border with
Mexico means that you will find an interesting mix of American and Mexican culture with fantastic food and some impressive art. The city is also eye-catching because it is very high up at around 7000 feet. Santa Fe hosts numerous festivals. The most famous of these is held an American Labor Day in the middle of September.
Most tourists have left by then and this is very much a local affair which celebrates the reconquest of the city by the Spanish in the 17th century. The Fiesta starts with a procession holding a statue of Virgin Mary which goes towards St Francis Cathedral. Then a massive symbolic fire is started with the burning of a figure. If you do happen to go to this festival be prepared for chaos and keep close to all of your party. Santa Fe is really exceptional for art with numerous shows of work in galleries and various arts and crafts groups.
July is one of the best months with early wine Festival and an international folk art market. At the end of July there is a Jazz Festival while Santa Fe also has its own opera. Wherever you go you will see a huge amount of Native American souvenirs on offer. At the end of the Santa Fe Trail, you can hire a car in Santa Fe to do a little of the reverse journey that took the ancient pioneers into the desert state. On arrival you’ll see that the city is surrounded by desert so if you’re going to hire a car in Santa Fe, we’d recommend a sturdy 4x4 so that should you head out of the city into the desert, your vehicle is going to match up to the conditions.
