Adana Mini Guide

There are some very exciting places of interest in the town and you are able to cruise around them in your hire car and visit them at your own leisurely pace.

The first place to visit is perhaps the city's iconic Stone Bridge. This dates back to the times of the Roman Emperor Justinian and from there you are able to get to many other historical places.

Adana Stone Bridge

Visit the Buyuk Saat which has the tombs of local governors and nearby is the Turkish Bath Carsi Hamami which has a bath that dates to the year 1519.

Ramazangolu Palace has been converted into a cultural centre and is well worth a visit.

Ulu Cami is a mosque that was built in the same period while another worthwhile visit is to the Antaki Mosque. Accommodating 18,500 people at prayer time, is the Sabanci Merkez Camii which is the largest mosque in Turkey.

Adana Mosque

Relax in the Merkezpark not far from the mosque and enjoy the Chinese Garden as well as the amphitheatre.  Discover the history of Adana by visiting the Archaeological Museum that has famous works such as Achilles Sarcophagus which depicts the Trojan War, the Augustus statues from the Hittite period and statues from the ancient cities of Magarsus and Augusta.

Another museum that is popular is the Misis Museum which you can reach in your hire car by travelling to the west bank of the Seyhan River. There is a mosaic depicting Noah and the Ark which is well preserved.

Adana isn’t well known as a tourist destination but that shouldn’t stop you visiting. It’s packed with history having been around for over three millennia. The city is large and if your hotel is in the modern city, hire a car to get you to the old quarter to discover sights such as the Justinian Roman Bridge, or the incredible ancient clock tower.

Once you’ve looked at the sights, head for the Archaeological Museum where the history and importance of the monuments are explained clearly. Finally, you must visit the Sabanci Mosque, built in 1999 and the largest in Turkey.
