What can you Tell me About Middelburg?
It’s a medium sized town in the province of Mpumalanga with an industrial and agricultural heritage. The town was once the destination of choice of migrants from the UK and Europe following the end of the Second World War but with the closing of several major industries, the migrants have migrated again.  Today the town is building a new economy based on tourism and attracting visitors to the Kruger National Park nearby.

How do I get to Middelburg?
The nearest international airport to Middelburg is OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg. It’s around seventy miles away, a distance best covered by hire car as the local bus can be erratic and crowded. OR Tambo has good links with airports across Africa, Western Australia and Europe including London Heathrow Airport with BA and South African Airlines.
What Should I do When I’m in Middelburg?
Middelburg has many interesting attractions in the town itself and its renaissance as a tourist destination has led to a number of entertainment venues opening as well as restaurants and bars. During the day you can take a trip to the Middelburg Dam which is ideal for picnicking, mountain biking and walking, whilst in the town the Botshabelo traditional village is a great place to learn about life in the region in the past. The main attraction though is the proximity of one of the routes into the Kruger National Park, the principal game reserve in Africa.

Latest Update from Middelburg:
