Lanseria Airport Mini Guide
Who Flies Into Lanseria Airport?
It’s mostly domestic travellers within South Africa. It’s often used by business people as the landing charges are lower at Lanseria Airport than at Johannesburg Airport. This means in turn that flight prices are lower, especially with several airlines offering the same routes. Not too much different in distance from the centre of Johannesburg, car hire and public transport is readily available to get you into the centre. It’s a useful airport too if you’re touring South Africa as budget airlines 1Link and Kulula operate there.
What is the Airport Like?
The airport is privately owned and despite being a small airport, has reasonable facilities. It’s bright and modern having been built within the last forty years. It originally began life as a grass landing strip operated by two pilot friends who saw the need for cheap alternative access to Johannesburg and has developed rapidly since being the landing place of Nelson Mandela after his release from prison raise its profile.
What Facilities Does Lanseria Airport Have?
Although it’s small, the airport is clean and comfortable and with enough facilities to serve the needs of passengers who, because of the domestic nature of the airport don’t need to arrive early for flights. After landing, getting out of the airport is quick too but for those who want to stay a little longer there is a cosy departure lounge with a small cafeteria serving hot and cold food and drink as well as a kiosk selling reading material and snacks. Boarding and disembarking from planes takes place on steps and across the apron as there are no air bridges at Lanseria Airport.
