Ljubljana Airport Mini Guide
Tell me About the Airport
Ljubljana Joze Pucnik Airport also known as Brnik Airport is the international airport of Slovenia. It is located in the village of Brnik 26km north of the city of Ljubljana.
How do I get There?
Adria Airways is based at the airport and has scheduled flights to most major cities in Europe such as
London,
Manchester,
Amsterdam,
Brussels and
Zurich. Charter and budget airlines operate seasonal flights from popular holiday destinations in Europe.
Can I get to the City Easily?
There is a shuttle bus connecting the airport with the city, it runs 12 times a day and takes 30 minutes. You can also use the city bus service which leaves the airport on the hour, every hour during daytime on weekdays. It is easy to drive too, just take the E61 motorway from the airport in to the city. If you have hired a car you will find the car rental desks in the arrivals area.
What’s at the Airport for me?
There is an information desk in departures if you have any questions once you are at the airport. For local information and maps, you can go to the tourist information office in arrivals, they will help you plan your trip or book your hotel. If you need to change some currency go to Nova Ljubljanska Bank, where there is also an ATM. Should you be travelling business class, you can use the business lounge before your flight – relax and have some refreshments or catch up on your emails. The airport has free Wi-Fi for you to use and you can try out the massage chairs if you’re feeling stressed out!
Can I do Some Shopping?
The airport has a general store MedVed for all those last minute items, you may have forgotten. There are 3 Travel Value and Duty Free stores with a wide range of cosmetics and fragrances, browse the special offers on cigarettes and spirits. Visit Shop Ljubljancek for gifts and souvenirs or to take home some local food or crafts.
What if I get Hungry?
For a sandwich and a coffee with a view, go to Caffe Avioncek where you can sit on the terrace and enjoy the views from the observation deck. The Market Place Restaurant offers light meals self service style or if fine dining is your thing, eat at Globetrotter A La Carte Restaurant where you can have Slovenian specialities. If you are just a little thirsty go to Take Off Bar for a soft drink or something stronger.
Is There an Airport Hotel?
No, but just under 3km away is the bed and breakfast Pr’Sknet. It’s a beautiful 4 star farmhouse in Voglje and they offer transfers from the airport. They have a restaurant where you can try Slovenian cuisine or relax in the cellar bar. Whilst you are there, use the hotel bicycles to explore the village.
Ljubljana is an undiscovered gem where the locals love spending warm summer days outdoors and many art and cultural events take place in the city centre each year. From events specifically to entertain children, to music and food festivals, there’s almost always something happening there.
It can be confusing though if you’ve hired a car because often roads are closed without notice. On occasions like these, leave the car and join the walking tour of the old city that takes place three times a week. If you’re there in December, the city centre is magically lit with thousands of lanterns.
