Treviso Airport Mini Guide

Who Uses Treviso Airport?
It’s usually travellers on a budget who are visiting Venice - the airport’s full name is Venice Treviso Airport. From the airport, Venice is only a thirty minute train ride away and the fare is just six euros for a return ticket so it’s possible to save a lot using Treviso. The airport is also good for visiting Padua, 25 miles away which is the setting of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew and has a host of architectural delights for the tourist as well as being the birthplace of the astronomer Galileo. Then there’s Treviso itself, the home of the original Tiramisu.

How do I get to Treviso Airport?
The airport is used exclusively by budget airlines due to its low airport charges. There are flights here from all over Europe and also North Africa. Ryanair is the major operator with flights from Stansted, Leeds, East Midlands and Bristol. The journey time from the UK is around an hour and a half.

What is the Airport Like?
It’s modern and blocky but has a very good range of facilities. Worryingly, their website indicates a complaints facility which cunningly links to Venice Marco Polo Airport’s site! However, the service is good and efficient at the airport. Inside it’s bright and airy with a number of shops and restaurants, plenty to keep the traveller occupied during their time at the airport.

What can I Expect Upon Arrival?
If you need help with anything, the information desk there is called the ‘Coordination of the Arrivals Area’ and the staff there can help if you are disorientated or need onward transport advice. There’s a separate tourist information desk which can help with arranging accommodation if needed and recommend places to visit in the area. It’s a good idea to stop there if you have the time as many of their great recommendations don’t appear in the guide books. There’s a Forexchange office in the arrivals hall for any currency you may need together with an adjacent ATM. If you need first aid, there’s also a first aid post next to the VIP lounges. Onward travel is simple. Most of the buses that leave the airport head for the main railway stations. Check which one is best for your journey before you start. It’s about twenty minutes to the station. The car hire desks are found easily in the arrivals hall and it’s not a long walk to collect your car after finishing the paperwork.

And When I’m Going Home?
After checking in, there’s a café and kiosk in the check in area with the main bulk of shops and restaurants after security. There you’ll find fashion stores, sports shops, local produce, a football store and the customary duty free shop. The choice of places to eat is limited but the food is substantial enough to last you for your flight. Wi-Fi is available but you must buy vouchers in order to use it. These are sold in many locations around the airport.

Treviso Airport gives you another option if travelling to Venice. Only 12 miles from the city, a hire car will get you there in less than 20 minutes and you’ll be able to park before taking a vaporetto into the city.

Many people bypass Treviso itself, going directly to Venice but Treviso has a rich culture and some fascinating Renaissance architecture to occupy visitors. The Sile River that flows through the city has charming footpaths to walk and pretty bridges crossing it. So, rather than going straight to Venice, why not consider spending a couple of days here?
