What can you Tell me About Preveza?
Preveza has a long and varied history falling under the influence of several empires including the Greek and Roman. Later in life it became Bulgarian and then Venetian before Napoleon gained control for France. One of the most infamous events in Greek history; the ‘Hubbub of Preveza’ took place there when the defending French garrison and local Greek supporters were summarily tortured and executed by the Ottoman army. After the fall of the Ottoman Empire it became embroiled in the first and second world wars before recovering its poise as a port city and tourist destination.
How do I get to Preveza?
To get to Preveza you must first fly into Aktion International Airport
, otherwise known as Lefkada of Lefkas Airport, and then take the underwater tunnel to Preveza. Almost all the flights to Aktion are seasonal charter flights including many from UK
airports and several low cost airlines also operate to Aktion but only from the European mainland. All access to Preveza is by road, with buses, taxis and car hire available to take you to the city.
What Should I Do in Preveza?
Preveza’s attraction is in its history and there are archaeological remains from almost every part of it, including the three ancient cities nearby. You’ll also find a lot of architecture from the Ottoman times. Nearby too, you’ll also discover several beautiful beaches which are often deserted. They may not have many facilities but they’re clean and safe.
